PHILADELPHIA STYLE MAGAZINE

Hitting the outer limits of design, Gyro expatriates Tracy Lutz and Regina Mandell have taken the fashion world by storm with their NIKO line of edgy, asymmetrically cut shirts, low-slung pants and campy tees that take you back to the days of My Little Pony. Finishing the sentences for me, this ex-model and her sartor partner muse briefly about trends, unicorns and their newbie clothing company.

We started our own clothing company because…
We weren’t getting much satisfaction from our jobs. It’s difficult when you're putting so much of yourself into something into something that is not yours.

We’d describe our clothes as….
Fashion forward, young spirited, and fun.

Our clothes are perfect for…
Party girls from the age of 12 and up!

Our clothes are different from anybody else’s because…
They are new, fresh and they’re hot off the presses.

Our design inspirations are…
From each other, thrift stores, vintage clothing, magazines, films, and friends.

We wouldn’t be caught dead in this season’s trend of…
Old Navy cuffed capris.

We stay ahead of the trends by…
Not following them and creating our own.

The one trend we’d bring back from the 80’s is….
Take a look at nikoenterprises.com. Can you say unicorn?

The one celebrity we’d die to dress, dead or living, is…
Any celebrity at this point. If they were into NIKO, we’re into them.

Our typical customer is…
That cool girlfriend you have that is always wearing the best new finds.

The two of us work so well together because…
If we can survive the trenches of Retroactive and the front lines of Gyro, we can get through anything…

Our clothes are available at…
Vagabond and American Mortals in Philadelphia, Shop in Mt. Laurel, NJ, and Skirt in Bryn Mawr.
